OOSTERBROEK: Jan Dries “John”
Peacefully, at the P.R.H.C. in the arms of his loving wife, on Thursday, June 27th, 2019, after a lengthy illness in his 84th year. John, dearly beloved husband of Tish, and the late Katherine. Loving father of Jim (Lori), and Lisa (Bill) Ropertz. Loved step-father of Ian (Shannon) Thompson, Wendy Thompson, and Erin (Jason) Hanley. Beloved Grampa of Mike, Hailey, Bradley, Hayden, Mikaela, and David. John will be sadly missed by his many friends and family in Canada and The Netherlands. John was a celebrated musician, performing and conducting with many bands throughout the world, and is a Peterborough Pathway of Fame Inductee. Visitation will be held at Murray Street Baptist Church, 175 Murray Street, Peterborough, on Thursday, July 4th from 5 – 8 p.m. Memorial Service at the church on Friday at 2 p.m. Visitation 1 hour prior. Inurnment Emily-Omemee Cemetery at a later date. If desired donations to Murray Street Baptist Church or F.E.J. would be appreciated. Many people referred to John as a ‘musician’s musician’. John played with Canadian Armed Forces, Air Force, RCMP band, National Arts Centre orchestra, many venues in Toronto, NATO peace keeping forces where he played throughout Europe and the Middle East. His music teaching career included Central Tech in Toronto and started the music program at TASS in Peterborough and LCVI in Lindsay. He was a founding member of the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra. He was the conductor of the Peterborough Concert Band for 10 years. In 2002, John and Peter Ford stared the New Horizons Band in Peterborough. He was inducted in the Pathway of Fame in 2015 as a celebrated musician. Throughout the years, John has influenced thousands of adults and children with his passion and talent for music.
