The presence of our support staff is critical to the day-to-day operation of our facilities as they play an important role in ensuring our high standard of service both up front and behind the scenes. We are proud of their dedication and commitment.
Doreen Cunningham, Accountant
A graduate of Ryerson Polytechnic Institute in Business Administration, Doreen Cunningham has been Community Alternative and Ashburnham’s Accountant since opening. She is responsible for financial reporting as well as providing oversight to administrative staff. Doreen provides business guidance learned from her years of experience working for large accounting firms, and many years as General Manager of an international distribution company
Joan Martin, Hostess & Funeral Director Assistant
Joan is a life-long resident of Peterborough and is a graduate of Federal Business College. Many in the community will know Joan from her years of service as at Dr. McCartney’s Ophthalmology Office. Joan has volunteered extensively over the years to such organizations as the International Plowing Match, the Heart & Stroke Foundation Board, and the Festival of Trees.
After successful completion of The Palliative Care Course at St. Joseph’s Hospital, it was her desire to assist families during their time of need. Working at Community Alternative and Ashburnham Funeral Homes for the past 10 years has allowed her to fulfill that desire – with pleasure.
Ken Nicol, Funeral Director Assistant
Ken Nicol began his career in funeral service in 1984 in Toronto. During this time, he discovered that there was a need for a service that provided specialized cleaning due to loss of life. His unique business was written up in the Toronto Sun, Toronto Star and National Post’s business section featuring successful small business ideas.
In 2011, Ken and his family moved to Peterborough, where he has continued his career with Ashburnham & Community Alternative Funeral Homes. He enjoys refinishing antique furniture in his spare time, as well as camping and spending time with his family.
Barry Johnson, Funeral Director Assistant
Born in Windsor, Ontario, Barry moved with his family to Peterborough. He met his wife-to-be, Cathy, at Adam Scott Vocational Institute. They have been happily married 40 years, and have three daughters, two son-in-laws and two grandchildren.
After 39 years at Quaker Oats, Barry has enjoyed semi-retirement providing maintenance services and assisting the Funeral Directors at Ashburnham and Community Alternative Funeral Homes. Besides enjoying time with his family and dogs, he manages to squeeze in time for golf, fishing, baseball, water colour painting, drawing and playing the bass.
Ted Natress, Funeral Director Assistant
Ted Nattress is a life long resident of the Peterborough area and originally from Millbrook. He has been in the funeral business part time for the past 15 years. He was involved with the Peterborough Petes and the Canadian Hockey League for over 35 years.
Ted is married and has three grown children and five grand children. He and his wife like travelling and spending time with the grand kids.
Debbie Moher, Office Administrator
Debbie Moher is a Peterborough native and comes from Pepsico formerly Quaker Oats with 25 years financial and administrative roles. Most recently, Debbie held the position of Nursing Administrative Services Manager at Riverview Manor.
Debbie’s hobbies are gardening, reading and walking.
April Lewis, Bookkeeper
April is an honours graduate of the Toronto School of Business and earned a Diploma in Accounting and Payroll Administration. In addition to caring for her young family, April enjoys volunteering in our community.
Tracey Ormond, Chef & Owner of That's A Wrap Catering
Receptions are becoming an increasingly important part of funerals and memorials. They are a time of fellowship and food shared amongst family and friends. Ashburnham Funeral Home & Reception Centre can provide reception services to accommodate any taste and budget. From the most simple of “tea and coffee” receptions to elegant full course meals with a bar, our staff will work to make this special event just right.
Our large, modern kitchen can service full receptions for up to 200 people. The food for our delicious menu is created onsite to ensure the highest level of quality and freshness.
Tracey Ormond is our in-house Chef and is the owner and operator of That's A Wrap Catering Company. She was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario where she attended SSFC and Trent University
Tracey has over 20 years’ experience in the food and customer service industry. Her passion is taking care of people, and when she is not creating a beautiful display of food at Ashburnham Funeral Home & Reception Centre, you will find her preparing her specialty wraps for delivery all over Peterborough and surrounding area.
Tracey is especially pleased to provide custom food orders for families at Ashburnham. Special requests for unique foods during a reception or full meals between visitations are accommodated with pleasure. Would you like to offer wine & beer to your guests? Not a problem for our reception staff. We will ensure that bar stocked with your choice of wine & beer, along with a Smart Serve certified bartender will enhance your reception.
Our kitchen is also available for community programs.
Currently Tracey is offering community cooking socials for people of all needs and skill levels. If you love to cook, need help in the kitchen, or just want to try something new, call Tracey to find out about the delicious, affordable, and fun meal programs.
Do you like to prepare your own meals but need a bit of help with variety or planning? Check out one of the great meal programs such as the freezer or weekender program. Ask how you can use the freezer program as a fundraiser. It's a great way to raise money and have fun while doing it.
